Why does Kerala need SilverLine?

Responding to one of the most frequently asked queries by the public, Mr. V. Ajith Kumar, Managing Director, K-Rail said SilverLine will substantially reduce travel time between Thiruvananthapuram and Kasaragod to below 4 hours. Currently, travel between the two districts by rail or road takes 10 to 12 hours. “Many people travel between Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam on a daily basis for work and business needs. They spend about five hours in the morning and five hours in the evening on the train. A rail system like SilverLine will take people from Thiruvananthapuram to Ernakulam in about one and a half hours. Also, the semi high-speed rail will take several cars off the road, reducing congestion and accidents on the highways.” Mr. Ajith Kumar explains how life will change for daily commuters, especially for those travelling between Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam, with the commissioning of SilverLine.
