Installation of Automatic signaling in Ernakulam-vallathol nagar route

The KRDCL-RVNL Joint Venture (JV) firm is installing an automatic signal system on the 103-kilometer Ernakulam Junction-Vallathol Nagar rail corridor in Kerala:

This is the first sector in Kerala which is going to have automatic signaling system.

  • Project cost: The project is estimated to cost ₹156.47 crore
  • Completion date: The project is expected to be  completed in 750 days 
  • Benefits: The new system will:
  • Allow trains to operate one after the other between two stations in short intervals
  • Reduce the waiting time for signals at stations
  • Increase the rail line’s carrying capacity by approximately three times
  • Reduce the practice of holding trains
  • Signal posts: Signal posts will be installed at intervals of one to one and a half kilometers
  • How it works: The signal works as and when the trains pass through the track
